Deep Wrinkles and Folds

What causes deep wrinkles and folds?

One of the biggest visible effects of aging in the loss of volume of our skin. Loss of volume leads to the formation of deep wrinkles and folds. An inevitable process of aging slows down the production of proteins in our bodies called collagen and elastin, which are the foundation of a healthy, youthful skin. It is because of these two proteins our skin has the ability to snap back into shape after it is stretched. But with time, loss of volume due to less collagen and elastin means that our skin will begin to sag.

The loss of volume is usually more apparent around mouth. The folds around the mouth, nasolabial folds—or more commonly referred to as smile lines—can look unattractive and show signs of aging.

According to the Mayo Clinic’s article on wrinkles exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, smoking, and repeated facial expression are other factors that can cause, or speed up, the formation of deep wrinkles and folds.

Treatments for Deep Wrinkles and Folds

Although there are surgical options for treating deep wrinkles and folds, most people prefer non-invasive treatments. Non-invasive treatments such as dermal fillers have less recovery time and minimal side-effects. Dermal fillers are injectables that are injected by a specially trained physician under the skin to smoothen out deep wrinkles and folds.

We offer several dermal filler products, including JUVÉDERM®, RADIESSE® and BELOTERO®. Our newest offering, BELLAFILL® is a long-lasting dermal filler, with results lasting up to 5 years.
